The stamp shows a picture of the first mail plane against a tinted background. On March 20, 1918, the first Austrian military mail plane took off from Aspern airfield to Kiev. The War Ministry made available planes and pilots for this purpose. The military administration was quite convinced of this project - the flights were scheduled regularly in both directions. However, the postal administration had to make the opening of civil airmail services conditional upon a successful test. Thus, Austrian airmailservices only started on March 31, 1918. On March 27, postal regulations on letters, dispatch post offices and charges were adopted and published in the Postal and Telecommunications Gazette No. 15. The first airmail stamps bore the inscription "Flugpost" (airmail) and were issued with the denominations of 1.50, 2.50 and 4 crowns. These stamps soon became popular collector´s items. "Luposta Vienna 1961" was dedicated to aerophilately, which already found a broad platform at "Luposta Danzig" in 1932. "Luposta Vienna 1961" was held under the auspices of FISA (International Federation of Aerophilatelic Societies), highlighting its international significance.
