VERZAMELDE GEDICHTEN Clem Schouwenaars  365 blz
  Wie een goed overzicht van Schouwenaars' gedichten wil hebben, kan proberen de in 1984 verschenen "Verzamelde Gedichten" te pakken te krijgen. Dit werk omvat door de auteur zelf geselecteerde gedichten uit zijn hele oeuvre, chronologisch gerangschikt.
        Alleen al de inleiding is het lezen meer dan waard, omdat Clem Schouwenaars daarin duidelijk maakt wat poëzie voor hem betekent en hoe hij er tegenaan kijkt. Hij citeert twee maal uit eigen werk. Eerst een zin uit "IJzertijd" (1978):

        "Poëzie is een vorm van stilte, zoals de lucht stilte bezit, zoals de nevel of het water, of zoals een gedicht".

        En het tweede citaat komt uit "Winter in Reninge" (1979):

        "Want mijn credo van de poëzie
        is stil, niet als de vele kreten,
        die ik hoorde, die ik niet geloof,
        want poëzie, geloof ik,
        is verdichting van de stilte,
        is de stilte in de woorden
        uit de woorden weer gevormd
        tot lichamen van stilte."
  Boeken van Schouwenaars (zowel romans als dichtbundels) zijn in de boekhandel moeilijk te vinden. De meeste zijn uitverkocht en niet herdrukt. Maar antiquarisch lukt het nog wel eens en ook in de openbare bibliotheken staat nog veel van zijn werk.
